Antibacterial Modification of Microcrystalline Cellulose by Grafting Copolymerization
نویسندگان
چکیده
Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) has the advantage of a high specific surface area as compared to that of conventional cellulose fibers. In this study the monomer methacrylamide (MAM) was used to treat MCC by grafting copolymerization. SEM, FTIR, and solid C NMR were used to characterize the morphology and composition of MAM-g-MCC. After the chlorination of MAM-g-MCC with 10% sodium hypochlorite solution, the grafted MCC exhibited antibacterial activity as a result of the formation of N-Cl bonds. The thermal stability, antibacterial ability, and storage stability of chlorinated MAM-g-MCC were also studied. The results showed that the chlorinated MAM-g-MCC had excellent storage stability and could inactivate all S. aureus and E. coli O157:H7 within 10 min.

Grafting Copolymerization of Cationic Vinyl Monomer with Quaternary Ammonium Groups onto Polypropylene
Grafting polymerization was a valuable method for the modification of the chemical and physical properties of polymer surfaces. In this paper, the grafting of cationic vinyl monomer with quaternary ammonium groups, methacryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC), onto the isotactic polypropylene (iPP) granule was performed by suspension solid-state grafting process. The techniqu...
متن کاملSurface Modification of PET Fabric by Graft Copolymerization with Acrylic Acid and Its Antibacterial Properties
Graft copolymerization of acrylic acid (AA) onto Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fabrics with the aid of benzoyl peroxide was carried out. The effect of polymerization parameters on the graft yield was studied. Percent grafting was enhanced significantly by increasing benzoyl peroxide (BP) concentrations up to 3.84 g/lit and then decreased upon further increase in initiator concentration. Pr...
متن کاملActivator Generated Electron Transfer Combined Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (AGET-ATRP) for Controlled Grafting Location of Glycidyl Methacrylate on Regenerated Cellulose Ultrafiltration Membranes
This investigation indicates the ability to selectively graft glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) only from the external surface of regenerated cellulose (RC) ultrafiltration (UF) membranes using activator generated electron transfer (AGET) atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). This controlled polymerization resulted in epoxy functionalized polymer brush ends. Further reaction of the terminal ep...
متن کاملGrafting of Industrial Cellulose Pulp with Vinyl acetate Monomer by Ceric Ion Redox System as Initiator
The Ce/ Ce redox system was studied to initiate the grafting of idustrial cellulose pulp with vinyl acetate monomer. The parameters of the copolymerization reaction (reaction time, temperature, monomer and initiator contentration, freeness, chemical composition of the cellulose) were investigated and their effects are discussed.
متن کاملGraft Copolymerization of Methyl Methacrylate onto Cellulose in Homogeneous Medium – Effect of Solvent and Initiator
Homogeneous graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto cellulose was carried out in N, N – dimethyl acetamide/LiCl (DMAc/LiCl) and dimethyl sulfoxide/ paraformaldehyde (DMSO/PF) solvent system taking ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN), benzoyl peroxide (BPO) and tin (II)-2ethyl hexanoate [Sn(Oct)2] as initiators. Different grafting parameters like graft yield (GY), grafting efficiency (...
